The Beach & Stabilimenti

The Beach & Stabilimenti

Fregene's wide sandy beach is lined with historic 'stabilimenti' — beach clubs that have been Roman institutions since the 1950s and 60s, when actors and directors made the resort fashionable. Some, like the famous Singita, are destinations in themselves for their boho-chic style, sunset DJ sets and seafront dining.

Pineta di Fregene

Pineta di Fregene

Behind the dunes spreads a fragrant umbrella-pine forest, planted from the 17th century to shelter the farmland from sea winds and now a green lung for the resort. The tall pines filter the light and scent the air with resin, a world apart from the open glare of the beach a few steps away.

The Sunset

The Sunset

Because Fregene faces west across the open Tyrrhenian, it is celebrated above all for its sunsets — the sky and sea turning gold and rose as the sun drops straight into the water. Unlike much of the Italian coast, here there is nothing between you and the horizon, so the whole sky becomes the show.
